Sheffield People's Theatre
Sheffield People’s Theatre has been part of our creative offer for the people of Sheffield for many years. From October 2026, we will be starting a new regular offer for our local creative community to engage with.
Join us for monthly sessions delving into the world of theatre with like-minded people and professional theatre makers. Learn through exploring performance techniques, studying scenes, reading plays and watching shows together.
The new SPT sessions are for ages 18+ only and places must be booked in advance.
UPCOMING SESSIONS
We are asking you to Pay What You Decide. A suggested amount of £12 per session would help us continue this work and plan future work with visiting artists. If you can’t afford £12, please give what you can. As a charity, every little helps us continue our work.

About the New Sheffield People's Theatre
Session Types
SPT Workshops
20 places per session
Pay What You Decide, suggestion £12
Led by a professional theatre director, SPT workshops will include script work, play reading or scene study, techniques for devising and skills development. These workshops will be discrete and not build towards a performance. There is no requirement to sign up for a block of sessions.
SPT Expert Sessions
20 places per session
Expert sessions will be in specific skills like stage combat, makeup, movement, singing as a musical theatre performer. Ideas will be contributed by the SPT community and arranged where possible. These sessions will incur a fee, and we will endeavour to keep costs as low as possible.
SPT Audience
30 places per session
Pay What You Decide, suggestion £12
These will be opportunities for SPT members to come together and watch work at Sheffield Theatres. Tickets will be subsidised and it will be a great chance for people who are attending the theatre alone to join a group for a shared experience. We will offer at least 4 opportunities per year for people to sign up and join us for a night at the theatre.
Ran in partnership with our community
Each month, our Creative Engagement Director, a professional theatre director, Amy, will welcome you to enjoy theatre together.
Amy will run the programme in partnership with our local creative community. If you have feedback or ideas about what you like to do as part of the SPT sessions please email learning@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk
