About
Open Works Festival Presents a rehearsed reading of A Sound is Still a sound.
It's 12:45AM and the club is packed. Tyrell should be behind the bar but tonight he abandons his post to chase after his ex. At least he thinks it was his ex...
A Sound Is Still A Sound is a kaleidoscopic play that spans one boozy night out in Coventry as Tyrell tries to apologise to his ex for forgetting about her birthday. Because that's why she was mad, right? When he bumps into his old mates from sixth form and a girl with a big crush on him, his mission is thwarted and across this lyrical odyssey of pubs, bars, and clown-cars Tyrell confronts his masculinity, his identity, and his capacity to know and say what he wants. At the climax of the narrative, when Tyrell comes to terms with the fact that he has lacked the language or confidence to consent to sex in the past, he realises the last time he saw his ex she likely didn't consent to sex.
