This Christmas, we’re running A Christmas Carol Dementia Friendly Project, celebrating special memories around Christmas time. Participants are invited to a warm and relaxed session to create a range of Christmas decorations including paper angels, bells, peg reindeers, Christmas crackers, twine stars and more. These will be displayed on a Christmas tree in the Crucible foyer, next to a second tree which will be filled with decorations made from handwritten memories and photos submitted by participants showing their favourite memories of Christmas past. There will also be blank baubles throughout the run of A Christmas Carol, allowing audiences to add their memories too.
As a Dementia Friendly organisation, Sheffield Theatres offer all theatre casts - touring and in-house - a Dementia Friends information session. Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative to increase dementia awareness and change the way the nation thinks, talks, and acts about dementia. Attending the free information session enables more people to become a Dementia Friend and commit to an action that will make the lives of people living with dementia a little bit better – something as simple as being patient in a shop queue or raising awareness of dementia on social media.

More broadly, our monthly Dementia Friendly Tea Dances continue in the new year with dates currently on sale to June 2026, bookable online, in person or by phone. And Time Together, our monthly creative sessions including dance and movement, will also run in 2026. These will be available to book from end of November 2025 by emailing access@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk or calling the Box Office.
Looking even further ahead, we will be sharing our Dementia Friendly summer project, themed around our sunny musical Summer Holiday, with more information to be announced.
