About
Open Works Festival presents a work in progress double bill of School Uniforms and Not That Asian.
School Uniforms
‘I’m on the cusp of something new; get ready world I’m coming for you!’
It’s the last day of year eleven and Joe is buzzing! He’s got it all worked out. But when he follows Liam Hardy into the science block toilets, his whole world turns upside down and he embarks on a journey that will change his life forever…
School Uniforms is a brand new coming-of-age comedy gig-musical about change, friendship, and growing-up in a working-class, northern seaside town.
Not That Asian
Not That Asian is a bombastic clown musical that uses comedy, video projection and music to playfully investigate and celebrate ESEA culture. Follow two clowns as they attempt to put on the most authentic East Asian production known to mankind. Featuring classic hit pop songs like “What, what are you?” and the well known comedy sketch routine “Karate me, Karate you,” plus the infamous game “Smack that cucumber!”. Expect Karaoke, kimonos, Kimbap and K-pop as we take you on an anime-style transformation journey to find out where we might all truly belong.
Developed with support from New Earth Theatre.
