Two pieces of new writing in development by international artists will be presented;

Far From Home | written and performed by Soap Box member, Lihle Mdlalana

Nazareth, a passionate journalist must face up to his past as he loses himself in the embrace of his new community. A thrilling new play by debut writer Lihle Mdlalana, Far From Home takes audiences on an emotional roller coaster exploring identity, mental health and how the people we idolise influence our lives. This adventurous solo show sees Lihle multi-rolling a host of unforgettable characters. Will Nazareth report the facts or continue living a beautiful lie?

Her loves her job as a teacher, it’s everything to her and she’d do anything for the kids in her class. She struggles with her mental health but if she could just shut her Brain up then she’d probably be just fine. She’s an ‘inspirational’ role model for the next generation, secretly building a socialist army of the future in her Year 4 classroom.

But things are taking their toll: the pressure of the job, the terrifying and unrelenting impending doom of fascism and the climate crisis and after ‘The Incident’ she’s confined to her studio flat with only her thoughts to help make things right.

A state of the nation play set inside one grown up girl’s head, F.E.A.R(False Evidence Appearing Real) is a brave, no-holds-barred exploration of collective trauma with mad beats and straight-talking sanity.
