This spring, we will once again be opening our doors for a programme of free to attend activities and events, this time in celebration of our brand-new production The Ladies Football Club.

Ranging from a casual kick about to artistic sessions to listening forums, Extra Time offers a free-to-attend range of activities, open for anyone and everyone to explore and connect with something extra to the performances happening on stage.

Following on from the success of our Dancing in the Square and Singing in the Square events, we now bring you Football in the Square, a morning of activities to allow everyone chance to get involved.

Sheffield Theatres are collaborating with Sheffield-born artist Sally Barton and a number of close community partners to devise chants and scarves celebrating their team spirit in the run up to Ladies Football Club.

Partners include United Women Affiliation, Stand and Be Counted's Youth Theatre of Sanctuary, Sheffield Theatres Youth Theatre and Sheffield Park Academy.

We want to the celebrate the community of football. In the words of United Women Affiliation: Together, Happiness, Reduce Stress and Loneliness!

The listening post is a project hosting the voices from some of Sheffield's communities and partner groups to share special personal memories and impactful moments the beautiful game has had on them.

We are delighted to hostSheffield Home of Footballas they present a series of talks that delve deeper into archives of women’s football, sharing just some of the fascinating stories of passion and dedication that have driven the game through a century of challenges to where it is now.

‘The Lady Footballer’: Women’s Football on the English Home Front during the First World War.

This talk explores the nuances of the rise in women’s football during the First World War and in its immediate aftermath. Through previously unseen cartoons, photographs, and reports, we can explore the different ways in which people responded to the wartime phenomena that was women’s football.

Nell's talk explores what women’s relationship with football looked like during football’s earliest organised years in Sheffield, as the game we recognise today was taking shape; how Sheffield hosted two of the earliest recorded games played between two women’s teams; how women’s football blossomed in Sheffield during WW1 and how things were forced to a sudden halt afterwards.

Wathletico: A Ladies Football Club

Join Caroline as she shares the Wathletico story, how the club started and what it brings to so many lives. Wathletico is all about inclusion. Whether you have played before, never kicked a ball or just love football, every woman is welcome, of any age or ability.

Along with the free talks, Sheffield Home of Football will also be running city centre tours, delving even deeper into the history of the Women’s Game in Sheffield, with tickets available to purchase here.

IN CONVERSATION: ELIZABETH NEWMAN AND SCOTT GRAHAM

Designed to inspire theatre makers, teachers and creative performers, Elizabeth Newman (Sheffield Theatres Artistic Director and Director of The Ladies Football Club) and Scott Graham (Artistic Director of Frantic Assembly and Movement Director of The Ladies Football Club) will discuss the creative process of blending physical performance with the art of storytelling, particularly when combining sport and theatre.

LIFE DRAWING

Celebrating the design and costumes around The Ladies Football Club, participants of all skill levels are welcome to join the session with a model clothed in costume. Learn more with drawing advice shared within the group and stories of the costumes’ history.
