Based at The Bank, Sheffield Theatres’ hub for artist development, the Theatremakers Group is the next evolution of our New Dramaturgs Group project.
The Theatremakers Group is a four-month training programme for early-career theatre artists, local to Sheffield Theatres, who want to develop skills focused on dramaturgy, creation, and co-creation. The 2025 Theatremakers Group at Sheffield Theatres will be led by a group of Co-Mentors: Kash Arshad, Annie May Fletcher, Frey Kwa Hawking, Jessica Millward, John Rwothomack, and Lauren Yvonne Townsend.
We are looking for eight artists to be part of the programme. Applications are open now and will close at midnight on Sunday 15 June. Sessions for this programme will take place weekly on Tuesday evenings, running from July - October 2025.
The group welcomes a diverse range of creative skills and disciplines, with previous groups including movement artists, actor-writers, directors, sound artists and more. We’re keen to encounter more applications from early-career design artists of all specialisations.

Tommi Bryson, Talent Development Coordinator, says:
“We’re thrilled to be relaunching our New Dramaturgs Group as the Theatremakers Group. This next evolution of the project will continue to serve the cross-discipline collaborators of the future by empowering them with exceptional mentoring, developing their dramaturgical and making skills, and providing time and space to create the kind of peer relationships that we know are essential to a healthy creative career. The tapestry of skills in our region is incredibly diverse, and we’re excited to reflect that diversity by continuing to provide a wide range of programmes and opportunities for Talent Development at Sheffield Theatres.”
The Theatremakers Group continues a legacy of work that was originally supported by Barbara Crossley.
We would like to thank The Dramaturgs Network for their support and expertise in the original conception of this project.
