We’re excited to see our brand new bars open for service at the Lyceum! Following the six-week refurbishment, customers can enjoy refreshments during their visit to the theatre from the improved facilities, including brand new coffee machines, fridges and displays. Hand-built in Sheffield, the bars are now fully accessible with drop-height sections. The new art deco design refreshes the space and ties in with the wider aesthetic of the building.

The refurbishment of the GRI BAR on the Lyceum’s ground floor, leading to the Stalls, and the ROYLE BAR on the first floor, leading to the Circle, has been possible by a generous donation from Graham and Sue Royle and their company, GRI Group. They have been supporting Sheffield Theatres for many years and have previously funded our Wardrobe hire service and Creative Engagement work. In 2021 they provided match funding for The Big Give Christmas Challenge and helped us to raise over £50,000 in our 50th year to support Dementia Friendly work and Sheffield People’s Theatre. Graham and Sue have also supported the development of The Montgomery Theatre and Arts Centre, which became part of Sheffield Theatres in January 2025.

In 2014, they generously supported the Lyceum Theatre Capital campaign to refurbish the theatre in order to house the very best touring productions visiting the city, as well as providing an improved customer experience and reducing Sheffield Theatres’ energy consumption on the path to becoming a greener organisation. In 2014, the Stalls bar was renamed the GRI Bar, and the Circle Bar was named the Royle Bar after the support given by Graham and Sue.
The support of members and donors is vital in helping us to secure the future of Sheffield Theatres; continuing us to produce world-class work on our stages, attract the best touring theatre, and enabling us to bring communities together to be creative and experience the joy of live theatre.
