Utopia Theatre: Writer’s Masterclass

24 May
Adelphi Room
Sold out

Utopia Theatre and award-winning playwright Oladipo Agboluaje are thrilled to offer a free Writers Masterclass day aimed at aspiring playwrights on Thursday 24 May from 2.00pm - 6.00pm*.

This masterclass aims to build your confidence, begin to hone your skills as a playwright and send you away full of ideas about what to write next and how to do it; working through a variety of exercises both individually and as a group.

The masterclass will be led by successful playwright Oladipo Agboluaje. His plays for radio and stage include: Early Morning, Mother Courage and Her Children (African adaptation for Eclipse Theatre) and The Estate. He also is the winner of the prestigious Alfred Fagon Award, and received a 2010 Olivier award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in An Affiliate Theatre for his 2009 play for Iya–lle (The First Wife) at Soho Theatre.

This masterclass is connected to Utopia Theatre’s new production Shadows in Different Shades, written by Oladipo Agboluaje.

The piece deals with the story of three generation of women. It is a story about what it is to be a daughter and a mother; a story of migration and shifting identity. Shadows in Different Shades is a compelling and thought-provoking tale of dreams and broken promises, of hope, optimism and resilience in the face of harrowing circumstances.

*Please note the time of the masterclass has changed from 11.00am - 6.00pm to 2.00pm - 6.00pm.

Running time: About 4 hours (including a 15 minute interval)
