A cycle of Schubert’s major Piano Sonatas (concert 3 of 4)
SCHUBERT Four Impromptus D.899
RAVEL Valses Nobles et Sentimentales
SCHUBERT Piano Sonata in D D.850
'The Crucible Studio in Sheffield is one of the best places in which to hear and play music… The experience is particularly intense for performers and listeners and I think that the feeling of ‘them and us’, which is noticeable in many traditional venues, is completely eradicated.' Tim Horton in interview with The Cross-Eyed Pianist
Tim has assembled a decidedly upbeat trio of pieces for this recital. Schubert’s lyrical and romantic Impromptus preface Ravel’s Noble and Sentimental Waltzes. Schubert’s Sonata in D, inspired by a holiday he took in the Alps, is rare in his later output, being almost entirely positive, naïve and carefree.
