‘I am the Labour Party candidate. Now ask me why.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I am the best damn person for the job.’

2018:
Vanessa Gallacher is the latest Labour Party candidate for metro mayor. Parachuted in from Westminster but with local roots, she’s determined, untouchable and exactly what this city needs; even if they don’t know it yet.

1988:
Josie Kirkwood is steel through and through. She’s a fresh new voice just trying to win a seat on the local council, whatever good that might do. She may be on home ground, but it’s a whole new territory.

A witty new play by Chris Bush (What We Wished For, A Dream), Steel explores the last three decades of women in politics. Surely things can only get better?
