TIM HORTON (piano)
POULENC Sonata for oboe and piano
BRITTEN Temporal Variations
ELGAR Soliloquy

These sonatas by French composers Francis Poulenc and Camille Saint-Saëns are glorious pillars of the solo oboe repertoire, here beautifully complemented by oboe pieces from two of the 20th century’s greatest English composers. While Saint-Saëns’ piece pays fond respects to the traditions of classical sonatas from an earlier era, Poulenc’s work has a dark and hauntingly beautiful tone.
