STEVE REICH Electric Counterpoint, New York Counterpoint and more

The in-the-round Studio Theatre is the perfect setting for two of the most influential pieces of the twentieth century, Steve Reich’s New York Counterpoint for clarinet and Electric Counterpoint for guitar. Both works involve the soloists playing against a pre-recorded tape of themselves – in the case of Electric Counterpoint, premiered by Pat Metheny, with 10 guitar and 2 electric bass parts – creating an extraordinary effect of pulsating harmonies.

Presented by Music in the Round, as part of Sheffield Chamber Music Festival 2018
