World Snooker Championship 2018 – On-sale
We would like to apologise for the difficulties our customers may have encountered in booking for the World Snooker Championships 2018.
We experienced unprecedented demand for seats through all booking channels on Monday 1 May, with the most significant increase being in the online activity. We had undertaken rigorous tests in advance of the on-sale, anticipating a 100% increase in demand, however, in this the 40th year, the numbers far surpassed our plans and as a consequence we had to suspend online sales whilst we increased our capacity.
We endeavoured to keep everyone updated throughout the day and once we made the changes to the system, booking resumed as normal.
The experience we offered for this on-sale falls short of the level of service on which we pride ourselves. I am extremely sorry that your booking process may have been affected by our technical issues.
We are proud to host the World Snooker Championship and we aim to offer an excellent experience to the many snooker fans who come to Sheffield from across the world every year. Rest assured that we are undertaking a rigorous review of our systems, working hand in hand with World Snooker, to ensure that there are no further issues in the future. This will include expanding our system capacity to handle further increases in traffic to the website and reviewing our queuing system to deliver the quickest and most efficient service possible.
