Our record win at the UK Theatre Awards

We’re celebrating unprecedented success in this year’s UK Theatre Awards with a record 6 awards!

Having been nominated for 8, we won awards in 5 categories. Show Boat won Best Musical Production and Best Supporting Performance for Rebecca Trehearn’s portrayal of Julie La Verne. Our brand new musical Flowers For Mrs Harris was also named Best Musical Production, with Clare Burt, who played the title role, winning the Best Performance in a Musical award. Lez Brotherston, who designed Show Boat and Flowers For Mrs Harris was awarded Best Design for both productions.

Our co-production with Young Vic/Royal Court, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and The Yard Theatre, Cuttin’ It capped a fantastic day by winning Best Play.

Our Chief Executive Dan Bates, paid tribute to the artists and staff of Sheffield Theatres.

‘We are absolutely thrilled to have our work recognised with this amazing clutch of awards. I want to pay tribute to the talented artists who bring outstanding creative flair to our stages, the dedicated staff team who produce such breath taking work year after year and to Daniel Evans who directed both Show Boat and Flowers for Mrs Harris before he left the role of Artistic Director earlier this year. To quote Sir Ian McKellen at the awards ceremony, the work that takes place in theatres across the UK is the true national theatre and we’re incredibly proud to be recognised for our part in creating the country’s rich cultural tapestry.
