Julius Caesar is adored by the people of Rome, but senators Cassius and Brutus fear he will become a tyrant. Brutus is initially conflicted but eventually agrees to join a conspiracy to assassinate Caesar.

Despite various omens and warnings, the plot is successful and Caesar is murdered in the Senate. Brutus and Cassius allow Caesar’s friend Antony to speak at the funeral, and Antony masterfully turns the citizens against the conspirators.

A civil war breaks out.

Antony joins forces with Caesar’s niece, Octavius, to overcome the armies of Brutus and Cassius, and the defeated conspirators take their own lives.
