Full cast announced for The York Realist

Today, Sheffield Theatres and the Donmar Warehouse announce the full cast for Peter Gill’s modern masterpiece, The York Realist, which will be directed by Sheffield Theatres’ Artistic Director, Robert Hastie.

Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch) joins the previously announced Ben Batt (Prey) and Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey). Full casting also includes Lucy Black (The Durrells), Brian Fletcher (Three Girls), Katie West (Inspector George Gently) and Matthew Wilson (Call the Midwife).

A co-production between Sheffield Theatres and the Donmar Warehouse (where Hastie is an Associate Director), The York Realist is set in 1960’s Yorkshire where The York Mystery Plays are in rehearsal, and farmhand George strains against his roots as a new world opens up to him.

An influential play about two men in love, The York Realist reflects on the rival forces of family, class and longing.

The York Realist runs at the Crucible from Tuesday 27 March – Saturday 7 April 2018. Tickets are available now. To book, click here or call the Box Office on 0114 249 6000.
