Thursday 14 March marks the opening of our epic new musical about the people of Park Hill, Standing at the Sky’s Edge. Written by Sheffield writers, the Mercury Prize-nominated Richard Hawley and Chris Bush, this production firmly puts Sheffield at its heart.
As such we are hugely proud to be giving ex-residents, people who have a long-standing and close connection with Park Hill, and those across the city who wouldn’t normally attend theatre, the opportunity to see the very first performance of this new musical.
Our community engagement team have been working alongside groups, organisations and individuals throughout Sheffield to connect with people who haven’t previously been to Sheffield Theatres. Listening to their stories and memories of Park Hill, distributing vouchers which can be redeemed for two tickets to see the first performance on Thursday 14 March.
This commitment to making this production accessible to all is supported by our project, Songs from the Sky’s Edge where we’ve worked with community-based Everyone’s Singing Group, a small group drawn from Manor & Castle Park and Arbourthorne neighbourhoods, in a series of workshops to create a song of their own, giving voice to their own stories and experiences of community, culminating in performances in the Crucible foyer. As well our People of Park Hill project, in which we interviewed ex and current residents to hear their rich and diverse stories of living in Sheffield’s most iconic building.
