Julius Caesar’s raid on Britain fails; centuries later the myth of King Arthur is born, while in 1980 a British army officer loses his mind in Ireland. History is written by the victors; this is the story of those left out. As another army blunders through another country, Brenton’s violent, funny play questions the legacy of Empire, and asks: what have the Romans ever done for us? This is the first major revival of the play since its National Theatre premiere in 1980.
