The 2005-06 season continues with this year’s Christmas show, Burt Bacharach’s only musical, PROMISES, PROMISES.  Its first revival since its triumphant Broadway and West End runs in the 1960’s will be directed by Angus Jackson.

Chuck Baxter is a man moving up the career ladder.  His secret?  Simple.  Chuck lends the company fat cats his apartment for out-of-hours assignations with their secretaries.  Everything should be going swell, but Chuck has just fallen for a girl called Fran, who proves that love is rarely a good career move.

Based on the classic Billy Wilder comedy, The Apartment, this swinging Broadway musical features a score from the songwriters who defined 1960s cool, Burt Bacharach and Hal David.  Numbers include I’ll Never Fall in Love Again, Whoever You Are and the title song, Promises, Promises.

Angus Jackson’s recent work as a director includes ELMINA’S KITCHEN for which he received a BAFTA nomination (National Theatre, Garrick Theatre, West End, tour & BBC4); PRAYER ROOM (Edinburgh International Festival & Birmingham Rep); he has previously directed two plays for Sheffield Theatres: SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO and THE SHAWL (Crucible Theatre).  He is joined by choreographer, Adam Cooper who rose to eminence as a celebrated and internationally renowned dancer for the Royal Ballet and perhaps most famously as The Swan/Stranger in Matthew Bourne’s SWAN LAKE.  His highly acclaimed work as a choreographer includes GRAND HOTEL (Donmar Warehouse) and LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES (Saddler’s Wells).  The show is designed by Robert Innes Hopkins, whose recent work includes SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (Sadler's Wells/Leicester Haymarket) and THE VILLAIN’S OPERA (National Theatre).  Hartley T A Kemp will light PROMISES, PROMISES, his previous work for Sheffield Theatres includes GLADIATOR GAMES (Studio Theatre) and AS YOU LIKE IT (Crucible Theatre and Lyric, Hammersmith).  The Musical Director is Dane Preece, whose recent work includes SEX CHIPS & ROCK ‘N’ ROLL (Manchester Royal Exchange) and SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (National Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse & UK tour).

The cast includes Richard Frame, Martin Turner and Emma WilliamsRichard Frame’s television credits include FAMILY AFFAIRS (Talkback Thames), his work on stage includes A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (Regent’s Park) and OUR HOUSE (Cambridge Theatre).  Martin Turner’s work for the stage includes MARTIN GUERRE (Prince Edward) and ALICE IN WONDERLAND (RSC).  Emma William’s screen credits include BLEAK HOUSE (BBC) and THE PAROLE OFFICER (DNA/Universal).  Her theatre credits include CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG (London Palladium) and COUNTRY MUSIC (Royal Court).
