‘I’m a Jew. I’m small. I’m homosexual. And I live in Sheffield. I’m f**ked’.

A levels may be over, but for one set of unruly pupils, their education is far from finished.

Back in lessons to train for entrance exams, the boys find themselves caught between two opposing styles of teaching. Eccentric Hector leads with a flamboyance that brings everything to life, while cynical Irwin has been brought in by the Head to provide a ruthless route to Oxbridge. But with love, sex and university on their minds, the question is, will any of them make the grade?

The History Boys by Alan Bennett is one of Britain’s favourite comedies, full of stunning one-liners and teenage anxieties.

Sleeping Beauty sees Matthew Bourne return to the music of Tchaikovsky to complete the trio of ballet masterworks that started with Nutcracker! and the international smash hit, Swan Lake.

Our story begins at the christening of Princess Aurora in 1890, a time when fairies and vampires fed the gothic imagination, before moving forward in time to the modern day.

Sleeping Beauty features designs by Olivier Award-winners Lez Brotherston (Set and Costumes) and Paule Constable (Lighting) as well as Sound Design by Paul Groothuis that will take the audience into the heart of Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score in specially recorded surround sound.

Matthew Bourne’s haunting new production is a gothic romance for all ages; a supernatural love story that even the passage of time cannot hinder.

‘Wonderful.
Originally produced by Newcastle’s acclaimed Live Theatre, and following sell-out seasons at the National Theatre and on Broadway, Bill Kenwright presents the award-winning play The Pitmen Painters.

Written by Lee Hall, creator of the worldwide sensation Billy Elliot, The Pitmen Painters has received huge critical acclaim and won the Evening Standard award for Best New Play.

In 1934, a group of Ashington miners hired a professor to teach an art appreciation evening class. Rapidly abandoning theory in favour of practice, the pitmen began to paint. Within a few years the most avant-garde artists became their friends and their work was acquired by prestigious collections; but every day they worked, as before, down the mine. Examining the lives of a group of ordinary men who did extraordinary things, The Pitmen Painters is a humorous, deeply moving and timely look at art, class and politics.

In its 100-year history no British rider had won the world’s most demanding sporting event, the Tour De France. Until last year. Days later Bradley Wiggins also won gold at his home Olympics.

Director John Dower had access to this extraordinary year. ‘On Tour With Bradley Wiggins’ looks behind the scenes at how a film was made about a man who hates journalists and is a self-confessed loner who prefers the privacy of his own shed to company of others. How do you go about making an intimate portrait of a complex character, who is also an athlete in the midst of intense competition?

The beautiful film From The Sea to the Land Beyond, made entirely of stunning images of the British coast over the past century with a newly-commissioned soundtrack by Brighton-based band British Sea Power, prompted a social media storm when it aired on BBC Four in November 2012, and gained huge critical acclaim in the press. The DVD has just been commercially released, but this is a rare chance to see the original soundtrack being performed live by British Sea Power along with the film. Made from over 100 years of BFI archive footage, award-winning director Penny Woolcock ’s film is a portrait of the British coastline and the role it plays in our lives – during wartime, on our holidays and during the boom and bust of the industrial age.

‘[I] fell down a dream. From the Sea to the Land Beyond really was something else’
Caitlin Moran, The Times

‘..a visual treat…British Sea Power’s arch hipster-fogey aesthetic proves the perfect accompaniment…’
The Guardian Guide

‘…a moving film that captures our relationship with the coast. There is no voiceover, just a brilliant original score from British Sea Power – rousing, evocative and often contemplative, it is the perfect accompaniment’
The Times

‘…a glorious mix of 100 years of BFI footage of British coastal life, with a soaring score from Brighton’s British Sea Power, and no narration.
It’s the summer of 1963, and 17 year old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman is about to learn some major lessons in life as well as a thing or two about dancing.

On holiday in New York’s Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents, ‘Baby’ shows little interest in the resort activities, and instead discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters when an all-night dance party is in full swing.
