London 1853. A young orphan arrives on the streets of London with no friends, no money and nowhere to live. He meets a cheeky pickpocket who shows him a whole new way of life. But as chance would have it, Oliver stumbles upon a gentleman who might just hold the key to his mysterious past…

Following on from the huge success of My Fair Lady, Artistic Director Daniel Evans will direct Lionel Bart ’s sensational musical Oliver!, an exhilarating story about one boy’s survival against the odds. Packed full of joyful songs including Consider Yourself, You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket or Two, Oom-pah-pah! and the exuberant Food Glorious Food, this will be the theatrical highlight of your year.

5 stars ‘When it comes to putting on a Christmas show, they have a fearless way with classic musicals in Sheffield’
Daily Telegraph 5 stars ‘the show was visually gorgeous, beautifully choreographed and lavishly orchestrated with Lionel Bart’s non-stop jukebox of show-stopping hits lovingly restored to life’

‘Tom Edden as Fagin was simply outstanding’

‘Hayley Gallivan was equally splendid as poor misguided Nancy alongside the smouldering malevolence of Ben Richards’ stuff-of-nightmares Bill Sikes’

The Independent 5 stars ‘tight, yet energetic; thoughtful, yet joyous’

‘Tom Edden’s Fagin is a memorable delight. Bringing his own highly comic stamp to the iconic character, he is pleasingly grotesque, but still touchingly human’

‘Hayley Gallivan’s Nancy is the emotional lynch-pin of the production’

‘From the moment the workhouse children enter, the stage is alive with their energy and commitment’

WhatsOnStage 5 stars Yorkshire Post 4 stars ‘lots of deliriously joyful singing and dancing’

‘To say it’s exuberant would be understatement’

The Guardian 4 stars ‘impressive production’
The Sunday Times

‘Sheffield Theatres, recognised as The Stage’s regional theatre of the year last January, proves yet again why it so deserved that honour with this glorious production’

‘performances that are rich in detail and danger, nowhere better exemplified than in Tom Edden’s richly inhabited Fagin and Ben Richards’ sinister Bill Sikes. There’s also a lovely and brassily sung Nancy from Hayley Gallivan’

Crucible

The Crucible is the main producing venue in the Sheffield Theatres complex. On occasion, the Crucible hosts touring work. The Crucible is also the home of the annual World Snooker Championship.
The performance area is a thrust stage which extends into the auditorium, enabling the audience to watch the action on three sides. No member of the audience is ever further than 22 metres from the stage, and the sightlines are excellent, offering equality of experience across the auditorium.
