Sheffield People’s Theatre

Our brand new theatre company, Sheffield People’s Theatre staged its debut performance, Lives in Art in November 2011 with a company of local performers aged 12 – 90.

The deadline has now passed for the Sheffield People’s Theatre applications in performance and for writing submissions for our next production 20 Tiny Plays about Sheffield.

20 Tiny Plays about Sheffield

20 Tiny Plays about Sheffield will bring together 20 new, five-minute plays around perceptions of Sheffield in the 21st century. The short plays will be eclectic in their range and genres – from musical to verse, hip-hop to naturalism and will be linked up to make a single stage experience.

Cast and production teams for 20 Tiny Plays about Sheffield will be recruited from people aged 12 plus from across the city. We are keen to hear from people who are new to us as well as existing members of Sheffield People’s Theatre. Participants will receive training and guidance from theatre professionals throughout the process and will work alongside professional artists and technicians to present the final production.

No previous experience is necessary – just bags of enthusiasm and commitment. Rehearsals will be on weekday evenings and weekends during February-March 2013 with on-stage rehearsals during the week of Tue 2 April and performances from Sat 6- Sat 13 April 2013. Recruited company members need to be available for this period.

The deadlines for cast and production teams have now passed.

Sheffield Theatres would like to thank Hill Dickinson Lawyers for their support with this project.

“it’s the measure of a thriving regional theatre that it can follow prestige events such as an Othello featuring The Wire stars Clarke Peters and Dominic West with a mammoth community play whose production standards are every bit as impressive. Anyone who cares about the Crucible ought to see this show. Anyone who cares about art might like to join them.”
