Creative Development is the department of Sheffield Theatres with primary responsibility for the provision and delivery of creative resources to schools, communities and businesses in Sheffield and the region. The department works within and beyond Sheffield Theatres’ premises through a well resourced and comprehensive programme of activities that has been a valued part of the cultural life of Sheffield for many years.

The vision of the department is to

develop creativity with audiences, artists, staff and the many communities of Sheffield and South Yorkshire through imaginative journeys that excite, inspire, educate and inform

The work of the Creative Development department is an expression of Sheffield Theatres’ overall artistic vision which is:

• To support and encourage epic theatre, familiar stories and new work in a way that is unusual, unexpected and artistically daring.
  
  
• To engage Sheffield audiences with a programme of high quality internationally significant theatre that is enriched by our different performance spaces.
  
  
• To provide a sustainable infrastructure and environment where new and established artists, audiences and staff can be encouraged, challenged and developed through the work produced and presented in Sheffield.

The department uses creativity as a way of making connections. It takes the exemplary work of Sheffield Theatres and finds ways of interpreting and reinterpreting the theatrical and creative experience to give meaning and value to communities of all kinds.

Creative Development work at Sheffield Theatres covers work with young people and teachers in schools, young people and families outside school on a range of creative theatre projects. We also work with adult learners and those interested in enhancing their enjoyment of our productions through Insight events, talks and discussions.
