Sheffield Theatres Creative Development programme : Teachers and Schools

I am extremely excited to be sending you Sheffield Theatres’ brand new Education Programme for 2009/10.

Sheffield’s world-renowned Crucible Theatre has been transformed into a 21st Century building, and our education work is set to match. With a season of plays that are set to be both inspiring and thrilling, our work with schools will be dynamic, engaging and illuminating.

This year we are presenting two Theatre-in-School’s pieces, both accompanied by excellent education workshops and resources. In the Autumn term we will be presenting, the heart warming, My Dad’s A Birdman; and then in the Spring term for older students the theatrical, football explosion that is There’s Only One Wayne Matthews will be touring both schools and the Crucible Studio.

There are also plenty of opportunities for teacher development through the Education Programme, including Master Classes led by the nationally renowned drama and education specialist, Jonothan Neelands. We are also working directly with Sheffield Arts Education to deliver high quality and relevant drama in education sessions at the theatres.

Projects and Workshops

Step Into a Story
Step into a world of stories and loose yourselves in a myriad of tales from Central Asia. Step into Story will open young eyes to the rich culture and the bountiful stories of countries such as Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Northern India. The creative drama sessions will stimulate language and communication skills. Students will have the opportunity to use and explore their imaginations; develop skills in speaking, listening, cooperation, drama, whole group story making and observation. In addition, the session will have links to the following curriculum points: creative thinking, speaking and listening.

Teacher's Development

Drama Explored – Jonothan Neeland’s Master Class
Jonothan Neelands, a major influence on the development of drama teaching, an experienced trainer and workshop leader with a national and international reputation and the author of several influential texts will be leading an exciting workshop day based on exploring the use of drama across the new primary curriculum; and raising skills and confidence.

Cost:	£150.00 per person + VAT

INSET Days
Choose from a variety of INSET packages to suit the needs of your school including: Introducing and Developing Drama throughout School; Once Upon a Time; Devising and Developing; There’s Only One Wayne Matthews/My Dad’s A Birdman – a play explored across the curriculum.

The exciting and versatile story of a young boy battling against the odds (and the bullies) to master the beautiful game and realise his dream of becoming one of England’s finest, black football players. A vibrant new play about friendship, forgiveness and finding out what you’re good at.

Our Stages Master Class
A one day event in which pupils will be divided into 5 groups and experience workshops, talks, demonstrations and activities exploring aspects of creating a performance and running a theatre – from marketing to acting to directing to production.
