Teachers' Workshop One

Led By: Sarah Clough, Sheffield Theatres’ Education Officer

Time: 16.00 – 17.00

Place: The Hepworth Room, Lyceum Theatre.

Content/Purpose:

• Formal introduction to the project
• Explanation and outline of the project
• Explanation and outline of the work: including introduction to
   the Page to Stage and the planned performance
• Explanation of required pre-work and commitment
• Discussion and explanation of Resource pack – Part One


Early September 2006 The Springboard Workshop

Led By: Sarah Clough, Sheffield Theatres’ Education Officer

Time: TBC – 3 hour workshop

Place: In School/College

Content/Purpose:

In depth understanding of the project, their roles within it; the textual material and genre.

• Formal introduction to the project, inc. explanation and outline
   of the project
• Introduction to the Page to Stage concept
• Discussion and explanation of Resource pack – Part One
• Handing out the tasks
• The Warm-ups – ideas and explanation of why?
• Textual analysis of school’s scene section
• Looking at the Realist Genre – acting techniques etc. in relation
   to the school’s scene section
• Examination of The Givens – focusing on Stanislavski and
  Strasberg techniques.
• Division of roles – Directors/Actors and secondary Creative
  Team Roles (Stage Manager, Costume Designer, Lighting
   Designer, Sound Designer)

 

Pre- Work:
• Read The Caretaker
• Basic Introduction to the Realist Genre and Theatrical Period
• Introduction to Pinter
• The Resource pack will aid the pre-work


Acting and Directing Workshop

Led By: Sarah Clough, Sheffield Theatres’ Education Officer

Time: TBC – 3 hour workshop

Place: In School/College

Content/Purpose:
Exploring techniques and methodologies to

• The physical performance: The Seven States of Tension,
   Proxemics and Stage Pictures – Semantics???
• Status – (Keith Jonestone)
• Exploring and playing with the scenes in conjunction to these    methods
• Finding Creative Methods


The Creation and Development Period 11 October 2006
Teachers' Workshop Two

Time: Workshop: 17.00 – 18.00
Buffet/Food: 18.00 – 19.30
Performance: 19.30 onwards

Place: Workshop: The Hepworth Room, Lyceum Theatre.

Performance: The Crucible Theatre

Content:
• Discussion of the project’s progress
• A chance to highlight any problems and to share ideas and
   thoughts
• The second half of the resource pack
• An opportunity for us to discuss the final day’s performance
  schedule
• Discover any further information/support the groups may need
• An opportunity to see the set and performance space your
  pupils will be performing in.
• A chance to see the first showing of Sheffield Theatres’ The
  Caretaker


Note: Please note that there will be two places per school available for the Teacher’s Workshop 2 and performance.

The Caretaker Page To Stage
31 October 2006

(Optional)
Led By: Sarah and The Caretaker’s Director

Time: 16.00 – 17.30
Place: The Crucible Theatre

Content/Purpose:

• Exploring the Directors initial concepts through to the Sheffield
  Theatres’ production on stage
• Learning about the technical choices (light/sound) of the
  Sheffield Theatres production

Note: This is not a compulsory part of the project, but it may be useful for pupils to gain greater insight into the text, and to have a preview of the set before their performances. It may also be useful for them to see a Page to Stage before they perform one. Page to Stages cost £2.50 per person


Rehearsal Visit
Led By: Sheffield Theatres’ Education Officer / Teacher/ School Directors

Time: TBC – 2/3 hour workshop
Place: In School

Content/Purpose:

• An opportunity for the groups to receive constructive feedback
  and support from a theatre professional before their
   performances and Page to Stage ideas.
• A chance for the Education Officer to see the work that the
  schools are producing in order to create the piece most
  effectively for the showing.
• Also in order to plan for needs and requirements of the school
  to the greatest effect.


Dress Rehearsal
Led By: Sheffield Theatres’ Education Officer

Time: TBC in consultation with teachers from 1st Teacher’s Meeting
Place: TBC

Content/Purpose:

• An opportunity for the groups to come together to create the
   ‘Take Care’ Performance and Page to Stage event.
• To receive constructive feedback and support from a theatre
   professional before their performances.

Place: The Crucible Theatre

09.00 – 10.30 Dress and Tech rehearsals at Sheffield Theatres

10.30 – 12.00 All schools and board watch project performances and Page to Stage

12.00 – 12.30 Schools break and board discusses performances

12.30 – 13.00 Feedback

13.00 -14.30 Break

14.30 onwards Watch Sheffield Theatres 'production of The Caretaker.


Notes:

• Please note the exact times are subject to change, but the
  basic formula for the day should remain the same.

• Please feel free to invite parents, other pupils, fellow teachers,
  school boards etc to the performance and to include them in
  the watching of the production. We will require nos. for Health
  and Safety reasons before the event.
