This Insight has been designed to support Sheffield Theatre’s Creative Development Programme’s production of Neil Duffield’s Leopard.
The Director, Karen Simpson has written an in depth synopsis of Leopard based on Neil’s script.
Jacki Rowley (teacher, and education worker) has created an in-depth Teacher’s Insight designed to be used in schools. This section has been designed to provide a series of lessons which could culminate in a short performance for another class, the school or for parents. This performance would be based on storytelling with the general theme of creation myths, and could be built up with puppetry, movement and music as desired. The class can use either an existing tale or create one of their own story. Alternatively, each section can be used independently as a one off session to link with the play.
Jacki has also adapted six African creation myths for use with the Teacher’s and Create It sections of the Insight.
Laura McEwan, (theatre designer/designer of Leopard) has created a series of images to ‘storyboard’ Leopard. The storyboard is used to support the activities provided in the teacher’s section and inspired the Create It and Puzzled? sections of this Insight.
The Create It section includes a series of sheets that will enable you to create your own; myth, recycled materials have been used to create junk puppets, drums, jingle bracelets, masks, finger puppets etc.
Puzzled? Inspired by Laura’s storyboard images, this section contains; spot the difference, guess the animal snap teasers.
Why not colour in your own story book. This section uses Laura’s images and Karen’s words in the form of a colouring in book that can be used in the classroom or at home. An ideal way to remember your experience of Leopard.
If you would like to have your own creation myth included on the Creative Development Programme website send it in, along with a consent form to:
s.burley@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk or post to Sheffield Theatres, Creative Development Programme, 55 Norfolk Street, Sheffield, S1 1DA. The consent form can be found in the Create It section.
