Digital Myth

Create Your Own Digital Story:

“Digital storytelling is the modern expression of the ancient art of storytelling.  Digital stories derive their power by weaving image, music, narrative and voice together, thereby giving deep dimension and vivid colour to characters, situations, experiences and insights.  Tell your story now digitally.”
 - Leslie Rule, Centre for Digital Storytelling

Why not write your own creation myth and turn it into a short film?  A digital myth can be a video, flash movie, power point presentation, scanned images and or sound recording.

This section of the resource will give a basic outline of what elements you should consider when creating your digital myth. As each individual accessing the resource will have access to different software and equipment we will only offer guidelines about the content.

Write the script of your myth or decide witch of the creation myths included in this resource you will use to create your digital myth.  Decide what form your myth will take, video, still images etc. Decide how long your digital story will be. Will your story be narrated, include sound, music etc.

Create a storyboard for your digital myth.  The storyboard will show you the flow of motion in your myth, and enable you to ensure the story flows logically and sequentially.  A storyboard is a series of panels with an image and wording to explain the action.  PowerPoint software can be very useful to storyboard your myth as can crayons and paper.  Look at the story board of Leopard in this pack.   You may need to do one or more storyboards to ensure you get the right sequence of images and that the story flows.

Decide how long your digital myth will be.  Go through the script and the storyboard then put together the narrative.   Write, speak, listen to the narrative and rewrite if necessary.

Make a list of all the images, sounds etc you will need for your digital myth.  Assemble all the things you need for the digital myth, eg take photos, collect objects, musical instruments etc.

Choose which piece of software/equipment you want to use to create your digital myth on and record.  Then record the narrative. Add any scanned images etc and soundtrack to enhance the digital myth.

You are ready to show your digital myth to your friends and family or on the internet.
