Preeti Saul - Auntie Munah
| How
did you become an actor? |
| I did a one year diploma in acting. After that, I was successful enough to get an agent. |
| What
other characters have you played and which is your favourite
and why? |
| Nora from A Dolls House, Young Woman from Mzhional, and the Witch from Hansel and Gretal. Playing Nora and Young Woman were the two most challenging roles I've played so far. I throughly enjoyed it due to the fact they are such deep and intricate roles to play. I love developing complex characters. |
| Which
characters do you play in Handful of Henna? How would
you describe your characters? |
| I play Auntie Munah - she is very funny, independent, doesn't care about what other people think of her. Very loving, although, she chooses not to show affection much. |
| How
did you approach playing your character in Handful
of Henna? |
| I had to have an open mind. An aspect that helped me create Auntie Munah and adopt her character was trying to remember relatives in India who are very much like her. It was difficult not to overplay her though. |
| Do
any of the characters in the play remind you of anyone you know? |
| Nasreen and Saheeda very much remind me of my mother, a few years back. |
| Can
you describe an object that has significance for you, maybe
something from your childhood? Why was it important to you? |
| My first cuddly toy. As my mother left a lot of my baby items at my dad's house when she left, I have very few items from my childhood. The cuddly toy was given me on my first birthday and my mum tells me how I used to be extremely scared of it when I was young. |
| If
you were to write a recipe for yourself what would be in it? |

Handful of spice
Pinch of stubbornness
2 tablespoons of warmth
3 cups of laughter
2 cups of energy
1 teaspoon of sweetness
A sprinkle of anxiety
Method:
Place under the sun for seven days. Add warmth and love extremely slowly. Simmer for three days and place under a starry night. |
| Can
you describe an event from your childhood that is significant
to you today and why? |
The day I broke my wrist on roller skates. I've feared them ever since. |
