Childhood Memories of the Monsoon Season

May 2006

Childhood Memories of the Monsoon Season :
The rain causes thick mud, you sink into it when you walk and it sticks to your clothes.
The rain comes down too quickly without warning; people stay under shelters and trees in parks, shivering.
Floods come down from the hills, you have to go out and block up the doors. We used plastic bags with bricks in, blankets or sand. The rain travels down the village in streams.
We lived in 3 floor houses when the rains came we would have to put the cows and sheep away downstairs under the house.
You have to hurry when the rain is coming it goes very dark.

The rain took 3 people in the river to the next village, they died.
