Presentation Task 4: Character Exploration

This task allows for the dramatic presentation of students’ interpretation of, attitude towards, and opinion of, a key character from the play. The form of this presentation is the choice of the group but should communicate to the audience a well informed analysis of character. Possible formats could be:

Monologue: either spoken by the central character, or by other characters about the chosen character.

Interview: Chosen character interviewed by either actors out of role or in role, as other characters from the play.

Key moments: Combining tableaux with pieces of commentary to depict the key moments or journey of the character through the play.

Multi-Faceted character: Produce a dramatic presentation that conveys the different sides to the chosen character.

Please note, the above are only possible ideas and are in no way meant to be prescriptive. Be as imaginative and original as possible. You will be allocated one of the following characters:

          • John Proctor
          • Reverend John Hale
          • Abigail Williams
          • Reverend Samuel Parris
