Presentation Task 2:
Exploring Themes Through Movement and Sound

This dramatic presentation should be in the form of a movement piece which conveys an abstract stylised interpretation of the allocated theme (or alternative theme of choice). The ideas may well build upon ideas covered in the workshop session.

          • HYSTERIA

          • THE POWER OF RELIGION

          • STRUGGLE FOR FREE WILL

The final movement piece should last no longer than 5 minutes and could be a series of choreographed sequences or just one piece. The aim is to combine movement, sounds, words and gestures in such a way that physical and vocal expression are being used inventively to explore the chosen theme. Music could be used to condition pace and mood of the movement work. Creating a series of tableaux is often a useful starting point.

Through this dramatic exploration of movement and sound, groups may consider incorporating the following:

THE DRAMA MEDIUM

          • The use of sound and/or music
          • The use of space and/or levels
          • The use of movement, mime and gesture
          • The use of voice
          • The use of spoken language

THE ELEMENTS OF DRAMA

          • Contrasts (e.g. stillness verses activity/silence           verses noise)
          • Symbols (the representational use of props, gestures,           expressions)
