“In My Dad’s a Birdman they’re not trying to fly across the Tyne to reach heaven, they’re trying to have a good time. They’re not trying to transcend this world; they’re trying to leap into wonderful parts of this world. They’re trying to leap into happiness in this world.” David Almond
The PHSE element of the pack focuses on goals and having faith in yourself. In the play, Jackie and Lizzie do not achieve their goal, but the fact that they have had great fun trying and that they worked together means that this is not important to them. There are discussions and exercises to talk about how we can have fun attempting something even if we do not always achieve it. At the same time, there are also activities to acknowledge that some children find it very difficult to achieve very simple goals and that they may be frustrated by this or not feel good about themselves. Therefore there are also some activities to celebrate what the children can do.
